Music Lessons

On Thursday, September 17th, the Korah Concert Band and grade 9 and 10 music classes visited White Pines C&VS to see the Toronto Symphony Orchestra. The TSO was in Sault Ste. Marie as a part of the Algoma Fall Festival. As they did three years ago, the orchestra invited music classes from the Algoma District School Board to a day-time concert where they played several famous pieces, such as Grieg's “Peer Gynt,” and Rossini's “William Tell Overture.” The conductor invited a student from the audience to conduct the Orchestra. She led them in a rousing rendition of Offenbach's famous Can-Can. In the concert, a former Algoma District School Grad, James Gardner who is now with the TSO, played the final movement from Hummel's Trumpet Concerto.

Concert Bands from the district were also invited to stay for a lecture from an accomplished composer, followed by lunch. Master's classes led by members of the TSO were held for each individual instrument - or musical section. There was a workshop for flutes, for clarinets and saxophones, for percussion, and one for brass instruments such as the tuba, trumpet, and trombone. Students say, “The experience with each amazing musician was very beneficial. They helped us learn proper technique and form which is very important in music.” The Korah Concert Band and teachers would like to thank the TSO for a fun, entertaining, and educational experience.

Pep Rally and East-West

Whats New

As well as a new school year at Korah we have a new class of grade 9 students, a new Principal, Mr. S. Iacoe, a new Vice Principal, Mr. R. Dal Cin and a new entrance stairway and landscaping at the front of the school.
