Fashion Show 2010

Every year the graduating Colts put on a fashion show to raise funds for graduation and prom. After last year’s top-notch "What Not To Wear" fashion show, the Colts needed to think of something extra special. This year’s theme "So You Think You Can Dance" really suited the show, as the dances were amazing.
Choreographers Alena Atkinson, Kristine Caldbick, Kait Cupido, Connor Dunster, Jessica Gencarelli, Kristen Greco, Ashley Hunter, Nicole Maione, and Sadie Puddister worked hard to teach a cast of 41 these extraordinary dances. One of the favourite dances by the audience was the grad’s rendition of "Thriller," where almost the whole cast performed the original choreography from the famous Michael Jackson music video. The most loved dance of the night, by far was the "Mash-Up Dance" performed and choreographed by Mitch Dionisi and Cameron Prouse. This fantastic dance duo captivated the crowd the second they began.Hostesses Chantal Rose and Allison Bovingdon, modelled beautiful gowns all night from Susie Yoo. Allison says, "It's too bad they aren’t actually mine!"
Audience member numbers have gone up since last year, according to Mr. Elliott, who says "This is one of the best turn-outs in a while." After watching this exciting Korah Fashion Show, the audience was heard murmuring choruses of "That was really good!" or, "Awesome dances!" or, "I really enjoyed that, they did a good job!"
The Fashion Show team would like to thank: the Grad Committee, the choreographers, Jesse Evans (on sound), and Jay Nguyen (on lights), all of the donating stores, Mrs. Elliott (the teacher in charge), and Nicole Maione (without whom the show wouldn’t have gone on). Great work graduating Colts!

Dragon Boat Races

Since 1999, dragons have swarmed the St. Marys River near Topsail Island in Bellevue Park. The Dragon Boat Festival pits teams of 20 rowers against one another, all in the name of fun and charity. Seventeen teams took part this year, with all proceeds supporting the Sault Search and Rescue and the Sault Family YMCA.

Korah Track and field - 2010

This year Korah’s track and field team showed continued signs of improvement. 67 athletes competed in city meet with 40 qualifying for the NOSSA championships in Sudbury. Our NOSSA gold medalists included Corey Conforzi with gold in the 100 meter, 200 meter, and 400 meter events, setting a new record in the 100 meter; Cydney Mihell in the 300 meter hurdles, Abigail Fogg in the javelin, and Rachel Ivey in the shot put, who also set a new NOSSA record. Other finishes that qualified for OFSAA included, Cydney Mihell placing second in the 400 meter race, Jaimee Carter placing second in triple jump, Rachel Ivey placing third in the discus, Stephen Maloney placing second in high jump, and Nick Burns placing second in the 3000 meter race. The coaching staff is extremely proud of the team this year and looks forward to increasing our numbers at every level next year.

This year Wylie Middleton won the Rotary award in Wresting for the third consecutive year and Jack Carlyle was the winner in cross country for the second consecutive year. Congratulations to these two fine athletes.

Athletic Awards

Congratulations to all the female athletes that represented Korah last night at the City Wide A.C.T. Athletic Banquet. You should all be very proud of your accomplishments. The following students were named top athletes in their respective sport. Riley Hogan & Haley Allen in Badminton, and Kala Studens in Soccer.

After 4 years of representing the Colts, Nicole Maione finished her high school athletic career by being named the city’s Top Graduating Athlete.

Interview with Mr. DiBerardino

Y.B.: What is the water project?

Mr. D. In the water project we are trying to do two things. One is that we are trying to discourage the use of bottled water, and by that I mean plastic water bottles that you buy from the grocery store. In doing so we hope to eliminate these from our school because of the effects on the environment which were discussed at the presentation in June.
The second thing is that we want to challenge the students to drink only water for two weeks. The money they would have spent on other beverages, they would then donate so that we could give it to an organization which builds wells in countries that don’t have clean water. The premise for that is that one dollar can provide clean drinking water for 365 days. Ten dollars will provide clean drinking water for a person for a lifetime. So that’s what that we’re trying to accomplish, to raise money for that.

Y.B.: What exactly does the Green Council do?

Mr. D.: The Green Council is an environmental club that has different environmental initiatives each year. One of the things that we do every year is participate in the school cleanup once in the fall and once in the spring. Every year there are different projects; last year our major focus was on the plastic bag recycling program.
This year we got grants in order to buy water bottles for the entire student body and staff, to try to discourage the use of plastic water bottles. Our other initiative was to try and revitalize student street, or the courtyard in our school. We were able to receive grants in order to put in picnic tables and benches in the courtyard for students to use, so they’ll have some place to hang out outside during the day. We planted some new trees in there as well.
