Cancer Awareness
Student Council ran a cancer awareness and fundraiser on Friday. Students wore pink and for $2.00 got a sticker that said "BeCause I care".
Students’ Council has embarked on a number of initiatives to help those less fortunate than us. They collected cans to start off our Canned Food Drive by Trick or Treating for Cans during Hallowe’en night. A competition between classes will continue. The deadline for collecting cans is Wednesday, November 17th, 2010.
In addition, they have once again spearheaded the Shoe Box campaign collecting various non-perishable items for children in Africa aiming for the city record of 200 boxes!
Pink day initiated the start of our campaign to help fight the spread of breast cancer with a proposed hair cutting event to take place prior to the holidays. Some staff have already committed to this event to the point where they are unrecognizable! As an FYI, our school will be holding its own Relay for Life event this year on Friday, June 3rd, 2011 helping to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society, prior to the city-wide event a week later.
Our two student senators along with the help of Mr. Dal Cin will be leading a proactive campaign at Korah similar to other secondary schools as part of the Project ABCD (Action for Building a Community that is Drug free) initiative.

The DU
Karl
On October 8th, 2010, Korah’s leadership class hosted its annual students and alumni duathalon. This year’s du course was set up in the surrounding Korah neighborhood and consisted of a 5km run, a 20km bike and a 2.5 km run. A total of 56 participants competed in both the team and individual categories.
The first place overall team consisted of Spencer Hogan, Scott McCrone and Matt Cuddy, the runner up team included Jack Carlyle, Brenden Carson and Stephen Erickson. In the individual category Mr. Wilson took first place, followed closely by Karl Zimmermann, while the best costume award went to Jaimee Carter, Claire McCarthy and Evelyn Steele. Many excellent door prizes were donated, including a mp3 player donated by Sarah and Steve McLeod, which was won by Lesia Kinach. Eric McAlister won a weekend stay at Maple Cove Cabin in Ranger Lake, donated by the Piazza family.
A thanks goes out to all of the sponsors who generously donated prizes, gift certificates and monetary reimbursements. Hope to see a great turnout at the 2011 Korah Duathalon!
