Spring Concert

Interview with Mr. Iacoe

New signage that has been added to the North side of Korah.

New Landscaping, stairs and railings added this year to the front entrance.

Yearbook: How was your first year back at Korah after being away for several years?

Mr. Iacoe: I first came to Korah in 1997 as a science teacher and headed the department before assuming the role as vice principal for three years. Since leaving in 2001 much has changed at Korah. Enrolment has increased, program offerings have broadened, extra curricular opportunities have blossomed, and building upgrades have occurred. It has been a great year, very rewarding working with students, parents, and staff and members of the Korah community. I am proud to be part of a school that is moving forward and I am really excited to be back knowing there is something for every student at Korah.

Yearbook: What new things have been added to Korah this year?

Mr. Iacoe: There have been many new enhancements made at the school this year. We have upgraded our outside grounds with a new front entrance, added signage with an improved and more modernized look and added horticulture and other features you can see around the outside grounds.Within the building we have had the opportunity to equip our auditorium with new lighting and improvements to the main stage area. We have also improved the appearance of the main office area and purchased additional furniture and equipment for our athletic and arts areas. You will also notice that enhancements have been made in the areas of text books and learning resources as well as the installation of a more effective wireless network throughout the school. As a school we have also begun to focus more on a green approach with the reduction of plastic and improvements to the student court yard which you will see in May and June of 2010. Lastly, the introduction of the PTA Super Bowl Raffle has helped many of our groups reduce the cost for families and students participating in various activities.

Yearbook: What can students look for in the 2010-2011 school year?

Mr. Iacoe: We will continue to build on what we have accomplished this school year. More improvements will be made to our auditorium, gymnasiums, main office, and student services areas during the summer of 2010. We have already committed tens of thousands of dollars on new desks, textbooks and learning resources for our students for next year. Thirdly, upgrades will be made in the area of IT with more laptops, Infocus projectors and other equipment. New courses have been added for students to enroll in, such as Digital Photography for one. Some new clubs will be introduced next year based on student interest. I have had several students approach me with some great ideas. More work will also be done to improve our exterior grounds if we acquire financial aid. I am hoping to increase the interest level among parents with our school council and PTA groups which are already well established here at Korah. Next year Korah will be home for many new staff and students as a result of the Sir James Dunn and Bawating amalgamation and we will be doing our very best to make everyone feel welcome and to become involved at our school.

Yearbook: We are starting a new decade. Where do you see Korah at the end of the next decade, 2020.

Mr. Iacoe: I see our school continuing forward with the great traditions that many people have established since Korah’s inception in 1967, over 40 years ago. Korah already is an excellent school with its people, programs and facilities but I see the school moving forward in a few areas. Firstly, to enhance our programs with a focus on green and alternative energy as a vehicle for future employment for our students. I want Korah to be the leader in this area in our community.Secondly, we need to continue to modernize our facilities to bring them up to the standards of not only the time in ten years, as a minimum, but of the future well beyond 10 years. I also see ourselves expanding our facilities and developing more partnerships with both private and public sector groups. Providing opportunities for our students and their families at Korah with absolutely no costs involved as a result of increased financial dollars either through fund-raising and/or alumni and community contributions, would be an ultimate goal for our kids.
